All servers: Is it possible to split the bill for one item among several diners?

Okay so, say you have a table with 6 people eating. They order an appetizer like nachos or something, and they want the cost of the appetizer divided among their six individual bills. Is this possible?All servers: Is it possible to split the bill for one item among several diners?
Yep, I'll give you piece of paper and a pencil. In my establishment - one table, one bill. I have good reasons for that rule.

Every check gets entered in to the computer as a separate order. We have 3 computers, 3 dining rooms and serve a few thousand people on a busy day. If I split checks, other orders can hit the kitchen before all six of mine. That means you may have your dinner, but it could take 30 mins for all six orders to come out of the kitchen, to complete your table. I don't think your friends would be very happy with me.

Could I take the time to split your checks, after I place the order? Only if I neglect my other customers. I don't tally your bill. I don't even know the exact price of anything on the menu.

If it's really slow, and you asked me nicely, I might. Then I'd have to explain what I did to the cashier and she'd have to figure out how to ring it up, without messing up the inventory. Someone's bill would show the whole cost of the appetizer, then we would have to explain why. The owner would ask what was going on and I'd have to explain to her. She'd get really grumpy and say, ';Just give them a pencil, you don't have time for that!';

The computers keep track of what we sell and it's how the kitchen places orders for supplies. We don't do it for those reasons. I can easily divide the cost. I can't send the kitchen mgr a memo telling him that all those misc. charges on the tape are for 3 orders of nachos, 2 chicken wings, so on and so forth.All servers: Is it possible to split the bill for one item among several diners?
It depends on the system. Aloha, Digital Dining, Olives and Positouch all have the option to do so, in different screens depending on the program. Most of the time, you will find it under ';check options'; or possibly under the split screen.
it depends on the system. Micros has the feature but for some reason where I work, the feature is disabled?????? Wich is really embarassing when a table orders a $200 bottle of wine and the ';share'; feature wont work. So in closing, You SHOULD be able to but, there are exceptions I guess.
Usually they are willing to split the check for you. I would ask them in advance though, and on occasion they may charge you slightly more for doing so.
yes, just ask your coworker how to do it.
