What's the difference between a split personality and multiple personalities?

I was just wondering because I think I may have one of these types. But I'm not sure which one. What's the difference between a split personality and multiple personalities?
Multiple is more than two. It's really just your opinion on different things could be different.

Split is two, and you go between the two personalities through out the day.

Kind of make sense? What's the difference between a split personality and multiple personalities?
A split personality can be a type of mood disorder. (i.e. manic depression) Multiple personalities is a contriversial psycological disorder that ';occurs'; usually after a psychologist hypnotises a paitent while asking them to name their feelings ';people names';. So the doctor can say ';May I speak to 'Tom' (Happy)? Multiple personalitiy disorder legally doese not exist. However some people claim that the have it. The APA says that it is not real.
Bipolar disorder is an example of split personality. One personality, extreme differences in reactions.

Multiple personalities is really rare.
If you have multiple personality disorder, there would large chunks of time in your life that you couldn't account for. They would be like having a drunken blackout, except for days, months, or years not just a few hours. Acquaintances would just see your behavior as extremely erratic.

I know that multiple personality disorder is rare, but it is real. My best friend in high school's mother had multiple personality disorder. She had been severely sexually and physically abused by her father as a child. One night during a school show my friend and I were working on, his mother had an episode and he had to go calm her down. The next morning a personality that had been suppressed for seven years came out. She truly had no idea who I was even though I had been at her house almost every day for a year. She was also very shocked to learn that her son was now 16 instead of 9. Needless to say, she spent a lot of time in and out of mental hospitals and the doctors finally resorted to electric shock treatments. It was so sad and scary to visit her in the hospital.

When my friend went off to college, his mother went to live with her sister because she couldn't be allowed to live alone. One of her personalities was suicidal, and my friend often had to search the house for razor blades and such. It's a very rare but serious disorder.
Split personality is normally of two diametrically opposite characters in one person.

Multiple personality disorder is having more than two opposite personalities in the same person.
Which one of you is asking?
Well you answer your question inside your question...think about it...split is two...multiple is more then two...both are really rare and there are not many documented actual cases...if you are...please e mail me....i am working on my PhD and i could use you in my study!
There is no difference. It's 2 names for the same thing.

Yeah, it is pretty much untrue. Mostly a fad subject for psychology laymen (along with ESP %26amp; parapsychology).

Think of it like this: The theory is based on ';repressed memories';, a fad which has already been proven to be a lie. (Hypnosis can create fake memory implants.)
