Who was the first person to split the atom?

I've read that it was Rutherford. But I've also read that it was Fermi. Does anybody know exact details? Thank you.Who was the first person to split the atom?
In 1919 Ernest Rutherford achieved the first artificial nuclear disintegrations by bombarding nitrogen with alpha particles emitted from a radioactive source, thus becoming the first person in history to intentionally ';split the atom';.Who was the first person to split the atom?
A female, Jewish physicist who was banned from working in Germany by the Nazis, she determined that the results her former colleagues were getting from bombarding a heavy element with neutrons were the result of them spitting atoms of that element, I think her name was, Mesner. She was never given credit for her contribution.
It didn't take a person to do it. It happens spontaneously in nature all the time. Uranium will fission every now and then. If you mean a sustained chain reaction, it was Fermi. But even that happened in nature at least once before.
