How do I split a rooftop TV aeriel?

I don't have access to the roof, only to the cable as it runs down the side of my building. Can I cut the cable to get to the wire, intertwine two wires onto it and then run two cables into separate rooms of my house? Can I get an electric shock doing this? How do I split a rooftop TV aeriel?
Go to a tv shop and buy what they call a splitter. There are three holes in this and they are for one wire in and two wires out. It has a connection very much like the ariel socket on the back of your tv. Cut the down wire from your ariel and put the first piece into this with a male connector. These are the silver bits that push into the back of your tv. Connect the two wires from the bottom of your splitter in the same way and push into splitter. At this point your original connection will be the same as before. Get some extra cable and run it to the second tv, connect it up and away you go. Don't worry about getting an electric shock as you are not interfering with any electrical circuits. It may reduce the quality of picture though. How do I split a rooftop TV aeriel?
just go t a electrical shop or somewhere like comet or currys and buy a uhf splitter there you go
You can split the cable at any point however you need to know how to cut and splice a coaxial cable to do so. It is not as if you are simply splitting a single wire and you will need to purchase the correct tools to cut and splice the cable, as well as the splitter which i believe is about six dollars. There is no detectable electrical current in your cable so no you cannot get shocked.
You will need a Y connection, you can get them at your local electrical supply shop, easy to fit, no probs mate, and no shock's.
You should not get a shock - but the previous homeowner may have been a complete idiot if you have been use the aerial already on your telly without any problesm it is unlikely it has been wired up dodgily.

You can split cables using a basic splitter. You can also use a battery or mains booster to boost the signal. Your best bet would be to cut the cable about a metre lower than you thought and bring that extra metre inside (through a vent / hole in the wall or window frame) split the cable and or boost it inside.

Then you can run one cable to the telly in that room and the other cable back out and round to the other room in your flat. This way no connectors are outside and exposed to the elements.
You wil not get any shock.

Yes you can do this, it works well for a couple of joints.

Join the inner signal core and join the outer shield, ensure the 2 do not touch. If you can shield the inner core joint all the better but its not essential. Twist joints are fine, insulate with tape.

If you have a reasonable signal that you'll be ok, no need for amplifiers or splitter boxes.
Firstly you would only get an electric shock if the aeriel happened to get struck by lightening just as you cut it.

The best way would be to cut the cable and bring it indoors, fit a 2 way booster and then run 2 new cables to the rooms you require, simply joining another cable without a booster, will reduce reception power.
You need to buy a splitter. Then run the cable into the splitter and run two cables out. You will not get an elecrtic shock cos there is no power going to it.
NO don't just joint them. buy an outdoor splitter and cut into the cable at a suitable place, reconnect the two ends in the correct terminals and then connect and run a new cable to your new position. A passive splitter will mean you have only about half the signal strength at each outlet, which may result in a poor picture, so you may be better to use an active unit which is similar but will boost the signal again, for this you will need to fit a power unit inside the house on the aerial lead, this passes 12 v up the lead to power the unit. You could also do a similar thing with an indoor unit, it depends on your proposed cable route.

Your 2nd question. YES almost certainly, and dont use a Y splitter or anything else not intended for outside, it will fill with water and be useless, Do the job right the first time.
