If you split a Atom in a nuclear reaction what happens to that Atom?

Is it destroyed or does it become two Atoms or something else? And if so what does it become? If you split a Atom in a nuclear reaction what happens to that Atom?
You can not destroy matter just change its form if you split an atom it breaks apart into its continuance parts, Proton (+ charge), Neutron (no charge) and election (- charge). You can break it further down from there into quarks and leptons. Then you have the theory of strings at the -32 to -34 cm scale that says every thing is a vibrating string and the frequency it vibrates at makes up that particular particle just like a string on a string instrument makes the note that it makes. -32 to -34 are much smaller then air molecules so that why we do not hear the tone that string theory predicts. If you split a Atom in a nuclear reaction what happens to that Atom?
wow i just gave a physics igcse exam it was screwed but i think i cn answer ur question...lol

when neutrons are bombarded on the atom(for example uranium atom) nuclear fission takes place and atoms are further broken down into three atoms then nine and some beta particles also come out and this gives out heat energy...this results in a chain reaction!!!

i hope i helped :) u cn check out wikipedia for further info its the best.
Well you can't destroy mass. So when you ';split an atom'; you are basically dividing it up into pieces (neutrons, protons). So like, you can't split hydrogen because it is just a proton.
A common misconception about oily hair is that it is caused by an oily scalp. The exact opposite is usually true. A dry ......... read more on http://diplosolution.blogspot.com/2009/06/oily-hair-care-tips.html
It becomes two atoms of something else. The number of protons before and after must be the same so for example uranium could be split into barium and krypton but there are lots of other pairs of products that could be generated.
I think, it becomes 2 atoms and this process called fission.
It becomes two smaller atoms.
it becomes two atoms of something else, it's called fission.
Do not listen to the person who said you cannot split an atom of hydrogen. I would like to say two words to completely disprove his answer... HYDROGEN BOMB. Jackass :)
it explodes
dunno...never seen one.
