';i have a beautiful old ash tree that recently split in half from a storm. i'd like to seal the remaining half to prevent the ash borer or other bugs from attacking it. can i do this myself? if so, how?
thanks for your help! How do i seal an ash tree that was split in a storm?
The new thinking is never seal a tree wound, it does more harm than good. All you can do is make a slanted cut at the bottom of the split and trim any rough edges with a knife or chisel. Sadly the Emerald Green Ash Borer will kill it before too long. Not just yours, ALL of them!! RScottHow do i seal an ash tree that was split in a storm?
Pruning spray. It is like a big liquid bandage. If it is split to bad you probably won't beable to save it. Sorry!
You may end up losing the tree. In more recent years, horticulture experts are beginning to discontinue sealing cuts. Cut it flush as much as possible and get rid of rough edges.
