What is the best way to start the splits when you are learning them?

I am wondering what is the best way to start the splits when you are learning them. Slid down into it or sit on the ground and then do your splits? Which of the 2 is more effective for learning the splits?What is the best way to start the splits when you are learning them?
slide down into it. If you're sitting down- you may not be stretching out as far as you can go- therefor doing you no benefit. If your bottom is off the ground while doing them (sliding down into splits) then you can go down as far as you like and at the same time challenge yourself.What is the best way to start the splits when you are learning them?

Do this at least 20 min. a day, at least twice a day.
