Everywhere I look, I find directions on separating the top from the bottom, but I want to cut it the other way, or at an angle. Could it be done in the same flammable fluid soaked string, fire, and cold water, as shown in videos? How do I split a glass bottle in half, from top to bottom?
No. On this page http://users.ticnet.com/mikefirth/bottle鈥?/a> is detailed testing of several methods. The only practical way to do diagonal or vertical cuts on a bottle is to use a bandsaw with a diamond grit blade with water cooling all designed for cutting glass.
If you only want half a bottle, with considerable care, losing several bottles and a bunch of grinding after, you can use a glass cutter and rap tool to break out a section then expand that.
If you wanted considerable hassle so you could do a whole bunch of identical bottles, you might be able to build a mold that exactly matched the profile of the bottle and use that to hold a hot wire against the bottle all along it to snap it, but failure to get a good contact will result in a crack running off true, ruining the effect of a perfect split. How do I split a glass bottle in half, from top to bottom?
the only way to know for sure is to try it i guess.......be careful.....
