I have a very large split in my apt carpet. It is about 3 feet wide. I have neglected to get it fixed for a while now and the split is about a 1/2 inch apart now because the carpet is stretching. How much do you think it would cost to get this fixed? Is it cheaper/easy to do it myself? How much would it cost to repair large split in carpet?
The problem is you have to take the carpet up to get to the underside to patch it with a proper seam patch.
Having said that before you go that route you might try to iron the seam together. Most carpet seams are glued together with a heat activated glue. Some times you can reactivate the glue by reheating it. Be careful not to overheat the carpet and burn it. Usually the carpet is seamed/heated from the back with a special tool.
Cost, I don't have a clue. I would not be surprised it would cost well over a $100.00 if not closer to $300. Call a few installers and ask them if they will do a repair and ask for an estimate. How much would it cost to repair large split in carpet?
It should cost no more then 100.00 to have a carpet installer or carpet cleaner repair this problem.
If you are able to bring the two sides of the split back together, at homedepot or other home improvement store they sell a ';cold seaming tape'; Its about 4'; wide and feels about like fly paper. Heat seaming tape will work better but you must use a special iron to close this split.
If you are unable to close the split, go with the pro.
